Poetry Yard

An independent initiative by poet Asmaa Azaizeh, seeks to make use of technology and its new media whereby poetry bypasses the geopolitical borders in the region. The most prominent form of such a bypass would be in bringing together, using the internet, Arab poets and writers who are unable to visit Palestine and the 1948 territories otherwise. The first venture that achieves such an aim is a “series of meetings for Arab writers”, done in cooperation with Fattoush, Haifa.
The initiative also aims to be part of placing contemporary Arabic and international poetry in the forefront, and that is through the translation and introduction of contemporary international voices to Arabic readers, and the other way around. And so “Poetry Yard” has set to work on an anthology under the title of “Unturned Stone”, which brings together, with the support of Goethe Institute in Berlin, eight poets from Palestine and Germany, and will soon be published by Dar al-Ahliya.
